And celebrating the flavors of Baja, Las Venenosas, by ChefAlex Branch, joins the Village as a pop-up from January through March, bringingbold Baja street food, fresh ingredients, and tostadas worth coming back for.

Arte Abierto Baja inaugurates its new Commissions andExhibitions space with a work conceived from the ground up, shaped by place,process, and presence.

Autorretrato flameante…(2025), by Abraham Cruzvillegas, is assembled in situ using everyday objectsand discarded materials collected in Cabo. Rather than arriving complete, thepiece takes form on site, guided by the surrounding landscape and theconditions of the place itself.

True to Cruzvillegas’s practice, the installation explores therelationship between labor, environment, and what the artist refers to as his mineralsoul or ánima. The work doesn’t sit apart from its context, itemerges from it.

The palette and materials, particularly the use of pink andgreen, reference Mangueira, the favela and samba school in Rio de Janeiro thatdeeply influenced the artist after his visit in 2003. This experience resonateswith his own background in Colonia Ajusco, in Coyoacán, where collectivebuilding practices shaped everyday life. From there, Cruzvillegas has continuedto explore connections across different territories and informal settlementsaround the world.

With this inaugural exhibition, Arte Abierto Baja opens a spaceto experience contemporary art in close dialogue with landscape, community, andthe ways places are built over time.

It started the way most good nights do: without a script.

People arrived as the light faded. Then the rain showed up: brief, inconvenient, perfect. The kind that makes you stay instead of leave.

That’s how Ánima Village opened.

The night moved through the village in layers. Performance appeared with SOMOS, where Carla Cervantes and Sandra Egido of Lo Siento Mucho, explored presence and restraint: bodies in motion, silence doing part of the work. Nearby, Lea Wonder turned exchanges into haikus, while Diego Win burn disrupted the predictable with moments of illusion along Pasaje de los Sueños.

Food circulated without a formal moment. Chefs Javier Galindo, Eliana Padilla, Yvan Mucharraz, and Xavier Salomon, together with Eric Arellanoand Alejandro Euroza, shared flavors rooted in Cabo. Later, La Lupita’s classic Cabo tacos appeared: simple, familiar, right on time.

At the Casa Dragones bar, people gathered naturally. Aura,the cocktail created by Alfredo Pineda, became an easy pause in the night.

Arte Abierto Baja made its debut with an on-site installationby Abraham Cruzvillegas, built with locally sourced materials and shaped by theplace itself.

As the rain came and went, Plaza de las Artes filled with music from the Los Angeles League of Musicians. The night continued inside Arte Abierto with a DJ set by Alonso Rivero.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and gave meaning to thisfirst gathering.

That night was just the beginning.

The Village keeps unfolding, and we look forward to many more moments together.
