There was a sculpture in the space. And the question Arte Abierto Baja asked was simple, and powerful: what if we don’t just look at it?
In April 2026, Arte Abierto Baja’s Public Program opened with two activations around Autorretrato flameante […], a work by Mexican artist Abraham Cruzvillegas.
Two different ways into the same piece.
Two ways of letting art move.
The first was a conversation. Cruzvillegas and artists from Baja California Sur, sitting together, talking about materials and territories, about the processes that aren’t always visible but live inside everything we make.
The second was an encounter between bodies, sound, and sculpture. La Danza del Conejo, performed by Ballet Folklórico Manicari Pericú under the direction of Mtro. Rogelio Linas, opened the way in. And inside, Sofía Camacho’s choreography, with costumes by Andrés Zepól, and Armando Camalich’s sound landscape wrapped themselves around the piece until it became something alive, something that belonged to this place, to this land.
